Distributor cap and rotor kit --> rotor hits the contacts of the cap. Unuseable
I ordered an MSD distributor cap & rotor kit for my 89 Mustang 302 V8.
Stock replacement parts.
Parts looked good although they were packaged not nice. The rotor has been stuffed into the packaging of the distributor cap.
Nevertheless: The parts looked good and intact, so I installed them.
Apparently, everything fit very well....until I started the engine.
An ungodly loud noise emerged from the distributor. Something hit something really bad.
I immediatly shut off the engine and removed the new distributor cap: The marks at 3 of the 8 distributor cap contacts and the matching metal chips inside the distributor told me, that the rotor was hitting some of the 8 contacts of the cap.
Needless to say, that the engine ran flawless with the old cap and rotor.
I installed the old rotor inside the new cap and the engine is functioning ok now.
